Toby

For almost 19 years, Toby lived a life absolutely overflowing with love, happiness, snacks, attitude, and the very important business of being Toby.

He came into his mom’s life so tiny that he could fit in the palm of her hand. From that little handful of puppy, he grew into the sweetest boy, her constant companion, and a beloved part of a family that cannot imagine nearly two decades of their lives without him in it.

Toby loved other dogs, although sometimes his preferred way of showing that love was threatening to beat them up. He kind of loved his brother Rebel, but he especially loved his sister, Penelope. And he loved playing with his cousin Frenchie, probably because the two of them shared the special bond of both being just a little bit mean.

He loved running in circles. He loved sitting with his mom while she played World of Warcraft. He loved licking the mascara right off your eyes if you made the mistake of wearing it around him. He loved getting Starbucks egg bites with his Aunt Jenny. He loved whining at his dad, Matt, until Matt took him outside, only to immediately whine because he wanted to come right back in.

And once, he ate a green cupcake and ended up with bright green icing all over his face, creating one of those ridiculous little memories that somehow becomes precious forever.

Toby was funny. He was feisty. He was stubborn. He was sweet. He was deeply, completely loved.

Most of all, he loved his mom, and his mom loved him beyond measure. She loved him when he was small enough to hold in one hand, and she loved him through every year that followed as he grew into her sweet little old man.

Eighteen years gave Toby a wonderfully long life, but there could never have been enough time with him.

He leaves behind nearly 19 years of stories, laughter, routines, photographs, tiny pawprints, green cupcake icing, mascara-free eyelashes, and an entire lifetime of being loved.

He was the sweetest boy. And he always will be.
