I got Miss Dazy when she was just six weeks old. She was the runt of the litter, and her littermates would run her off from the food bowl. She was food motivated to say the least.

She wasn’t a pretty puppy, but she was the only female, and I have always preferred female dogs. I believe female dogs have better instincts when it comes to children. As Dazy grew, she grew into her colors and became a beautiful red merle Aussie.

But her beauty was nothing compared to the love she had for everyone she ever met. She was especially gentle with my grandchildren, even when they were still crawling. Dazy would get down on the floor with them and love on them.

She was my constant companion. Every morning, she greeted me, and every night before bed, she gave me kisses. As she got older, she developed terrible separation anxiety whenever Susan or I were somewhere she couldn’t see or hear us.

She simply needed to know we were close. I have had many dogs throughout my life, but Dazy Dog took my heart. There were times when she seemed to know me better than I knew myself.

She knew when I was upset, when I was sick, or even when I was just mad. She would lean hard against my legs and quietly let me know she was there for me. I will miss her for the rest of my life.

Dazy was my second Aussie, and she will not be my last. I will have a third. Aussies are the most loving, intelligent, and faithful dogs I have ever owned.

But there will only ever be one Dazy Dog. She was more than a dog. She was my companion, my comfort, and a piece of my heart.

I am grateful for every day I had with her, and I will carry her with me for the rest of my life.

Remembered with love in Fort Worth.
